After her death, Mayor Aykurt Nuhoglu of Kadikoy received 17,000 signatures to honor her memory. Local Sculptor Seval Sahin constructed a sculpture of the cat in her chilling pose that gained her fame. On October 4, 2016, the Tombili statue was unveiled to hundreds of people, and Kadikoy?s deputy mayor Basar Necipoglu spoke at the juncture; the event was carried on Turkish TV.
Too good to be true, as evil lives in some hearts, and a month later, Tombili?s sculpture disappeared. Kadikoy Municipality announced on November 8, 2016, that thieves had stolen her statue. ?They stole Tombili statue,? quoted Turkish MP Tuncay Ozkan. He went on, ?They are enemies of everything beautiful. All they know is hate, tears, and war.?
