The battle at LZ X-Ray became famous through We Were Soldiers. But the fighting in the Ia Drang Valley did not end there. On November 17, 1965, men of the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry were moving toward Landing Zone Albany when North Vietnamese forces struck from the tall elephant grass. What followed became one of the most devastating American encounters of the Vietnam War: 155 U.S. soldiers were killed and 124 wounded.
