Can butter be used instead of shortening?

You know, I'm not sure. I use the family recipe. What I do know, is you can substitute anise for the lemon.

Linda, I looked up the wedding cookies and yes it showed it as 1 type of wedding cookie. The picture had sprinkles on it, which I have done but would not recommend because the coloring bleeds into the white icing. The Italian wedding cookies im familiar with is rolled in DRY powdered sugar.
