They Heed Only HIS Voice
"...the sheep hear his voice;
and he calls his own sheep by name
and leads them out.
And when he brings out his own sheep,
he goes before them;
and the sheep follow him,
FOR THEY KNOW HIS VOICE."
John 10:2-4
There are so many voices in the world, teaching many diverse things. Who is one to believe? People listen to the news media even though they know the it is putting a slant on things in order to have them believe a certain way. College professors spin their agendas on young minds who generally believe what they're being taught. Counselors insert their take on things and the weak take it all in, not questioning whether or not the counsel is valid. Friends hold great sway over a friend in trouble, and in his weakened state the person with the problem will accept the advice of the trusted friend, even when the friend is giving bad advice.
Who is one to believe?
Jesus Christ is the shepherd of his flock, and when one has walked with him for a long time he will know the Shepherd's voice. When he has a problem, he will not turn to counselors, or even to friends - he will go to the Shepherd. Only the Shepherd knows his followers' story and history and conflicts, and he is the ONLY ONE who can be trusted to guide him rightly. Any other voice can be very wrong even though it seems to make perfect sense. We are so often mislead by incorrect advice!
Saints, when you have a need take it to the Shepherd. If you follow his lead alone, you will be following the only one who knows exactly what you need. Follow him and rest in confidence that he will always lead you into the right way you should go.

Your Heart Is The Target
"Cease from anger, and forsake wrath;
do not fret - it only causes harm."
Psalm 37:8
This can be a hard one. When one is angry, HOW can he cease from it? Anger is powerful and not easily let go.
"But," you say, "I am justified, look at what he/she did to me or said about me!"
You can choose to stay in it, ...but "it only causes harm."
Take it to the Lord, tell him how this is so unfair, (yes, he WILL listen, pour it out before him) then leave it with him and ask that his peace which surpasses all understanding replace the anger.
Always remember that if you are a born-again believer in Jesus Christ you are walking around with a bull's eye on your back. Satan will put it into the hearts of people to say and do hateful things, IN ORDER TO BRING YOU DOWN and render you so filled with emotion that you become useless to the Lord.
RECOGNIZE IT FOR WHAT IT IS.
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this age,
against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the high places."
Ephesians 6:12
Meditate on this passage. Meditate on it until you "get it," until you come to thoroughly understand that it is Satan using people against you. Get your eyes off the individual, and recognize your true enemy.
Pray with me:
Father, we don't see into the spiritual realm so it's hard to realize that things said or done against us originated not in the person who hurt us, but in the enemy who is determined to destroy us. Father I pray, put YOUR love in my heart so that I can turn the tables on Satan by praying instead for the person he caused to hurt me.

In Times When There Appears To Be No Solution
"In the day of my trouble
I sought the Lord;
my hand was stretched out
in the night without ceasing;
my soul refused to be comforted."
Psalm 77:2
There are times in life when the trouble seems insurmountable. In the day of trouble, what do you do? When you are overwhelmed, whose advice do you seek? Do you turn to family? Friends? A counselor?
vs 4:
"I am so troubled that I cannot speak."
The hurting one thinks back, diligently going over the circumstances, trying to come up with a solution.
vs 6:
"I meditate within my heart,
and my spirit makes diligent search."
But there comes a time when there IS no solution, and one descends into despair. It looks like God has forsaken him, and he sits in fear and dread as the trouble looms great before him.
But God has not deserted the believer, though it may seem that way. It is in trouble that the faith of the believer is sorely tested.
In times like this, one is called upon to WAIT on the Lord. It may be one of the most difficult things in life to do. But while waiting, let the believer think back to the times when God has made all the difference, when things changed in such a way that it was obviously the hand of God. Let the believer meditate on every circumstance that the Lord has led him through, and his crippled faith will begin to be revived.
vs 11-12:
"I will remember the works of the Lord;
surely I will remember your wonders of old.
I will also meditate on all your work,
and talk of your deeds."
The believer will see that the present distress will be turned into a testimony - if only he will wait faithfully and bring to God songs of praise.
