I used to be pretty good at super metroid myself. Learned how to Crystal Flash and how to get the Murder Beam glitch a few times. Haven't played in ages though.
If you're homesick for Zelda: Link to the Past, then I can give the suggestion of getting Zelda: Link Between Worlds.
It's more or less the same game but brought into the more modern era with a new storyline and new puzzles/look/design. I'd also suggest trying out the gameboy games "Oracle of Ages / Oracle of Seasons" I remember having a great time with those ones. True Zelda style in all of it's glory.
Each of them are their own game but unlike pokemon, when you finish one it tells you to play the other and gives a password to "continue" the game or something. Really unique.
I think they might be on the switch e-shop or something.
All of the metroid games are good though, other than "Other M" which should be avoided at all costs.
I think retropie or whatever it's called is what some people use to emulate snes and other 'ye olde games'. There's a ton of stuff all over the internet for abandonware and abandongames.
