Those with Citizens Band (CB) base stations, and perhaps mobiles, would you be interested in an over-the-air meet and range test? I would think that a Saturday or Sunday would be an ideal day; early-to-middle afternoon a good time (to allow for completion of errands/lunch/worship services).
Anyone who has listened/operated lately, knows that band conditions may be challenging, but what better way to check out one's gear. For conservation of spectrum and best possible range, I suggest Lower Sideband (LSB) mode be used. Perhaps Channel 12, to allow a bit of space away from the ever-crowded Channel 19, and for those with older 23-channel rigs to participate.
But these are just suggestions; Let's open up a discussion here as to how best to accomplish this. What are your thoughts?

The news of alphanumeric pagers, of all things, being remotely detonated with injuries and death abounding, should be yet another example of how telecommunications based on commercial infrastructure can be compromised. Cellphones, having tracking and other remote facilities built in, are even easier to disable.
I'll again advise citizens to consider having two-way radio for keeping in contact with family and friends in the event of losing cell- and landline telephone service. CB Radio is by far the least-expensive and easiest to implement. Improvements in modern rigs make them very attractive; older gear also has its advantages. Also, consider some kind of backup/emergency electrical power.
And certainly all this can come in handy in natural emergencies; time and again telecoms have been offlined by such things as tornadoes, hurricanes, and ice.
Think about it.

The 14-year-old suspect, a student, surrendered immediately, law enforcement officials said.
And right on cue, liberals are calling for more gun control. To beat a long-dead horse into pudding here, this isn't a gun problem. It's a parenting problem. It's a morality problem. It's a societal problem. And it's a media-exposure problem. I'm not saying that there weren't shootings during my formative years, but absolutely none of the scale and severity of that which is occurring today. The classic "teenagers drove pickup trucks to high school with loaded rifles in window gun-racks" was very real in my time and location. And no one was shot.
