Sunday Afternoon Drill: Here is a little drill you can do at home and also use to figure out where you should focus your range time. This drill works if you are home, at work or a friends place or even out at the local pub.
As you walk through your home (or wherever you may find yourself), ask what you would do if someone appeared out of a closet, hall, door, window or other hiding place. Calculate your options, your responses, location of loved ones.
A big take away is to consider the average distance you find yourself facing an adversary. We suspect it will be less than nine feet. Given that average distance you should consider if you are spending enough at the range practicing short distance shooting in a high-threat/high-stress scenario.
You should also think about what type of response you need to work on that may not involve your gun. What other weapons could you employ from your environment? What skills do or don't you have that may decide the outcome?
This is a simple drill, but if you visualize, think and try to be extremely honest with yourself, you may just find that you can piece together a great training plan for 2013.
