Freedom went to the highest bidder. The melting pot of world culture has been a refuge for the fleeing. People were bound by experience rather than separated by culture. Drawn to the Possibilities because they like all of us believed that America was the place where individual freedom was a God given right. But then they got here. The tenement buildings and the factories offered opportunities, to work long hours for little pay. The American dream became a Was real. The American dream belonged to the colonizers, the ones who still had royal titles attached to their name. Entitlement by nepotism meant that the founding fathers progeny would rule in their sted. Still more and more flocked to these shores. My family only 2 generation Ago. Fled from Poland in WWII. My grandfather saved from concentration camps only to be incarcerated at 17. 43 years later my mother was born. Now I'm 43. The last of that family to know the story, what little there is to know. My father's family been here much longer. EnoughThat I am the 5th generation of that line of women to be committed as a child to state care. I am grateful for my nation. Not in the institutions that raised me. I am American born with pride, but not in the history of subjugation that politicians first create then try to hide Once veils are lifted. They campaign for our plight, When they sit in the chair of their destiny they forget who put them there. I love the people of this nation, and the ideals by which it stands. I love the many flavors and colors of the people, the art, the music and how we all Want the same things. We may dream big but live humble. As long as needs are met what we want is much easier to obtain. Life. Liberty and the pursuit of happiness was the promise of this country. Life is now something for profit. Liberty only for the select and no body is happy Here. Not unless they are living the American dream, then they have to be asleep to not see how their brethern suffer and weep. There is no nation stronger than one that stands together. Despite the illusion of glittering neon and unfathomable sights in signs. The real america IS Still here. In our communities. We see it everyday when the worst things happen. When homes are destroyed by storms and bad things happen, you find them. They come from everywhere. Holding vigils and praying and helping each other make it one more day. This Country is amazing. It's no wonder people leave lands exotic with castles and ruins we only dream of seeing. The world is so beautiful and this country offers everything. Everything but the principals on which it stands. To all be one nation, of individuals, with liberty and Justice for ALL! Therein lies the crux. Those who fought in fatigues or fought to break chains already fought the good fight. All we had to do was to keep it. And here we are today no longer a feast of gathering, but standing behind dividing lines, clutching to labels that symbol Is freedom, the illusions that we lost what we never had means we fight for an ideal against each other. When the ones in control are the only ones granting and giving crumbs of opportunities. We are one. We are only separated by thoughts and action. Choices. There is us and them
