We are seeing before our eyes and ears, what Hong Kong went through last year. Its only going to get worse people.

"The Media is hyping Covid-19. I should know. I work in radio.
If youll pay attention to the numbers, you will realize that with very few exceptions the numbers are cumulative. Deaths are as well.
Why most media outlets are choosing to use cumulative numbers instead of current numbers is fodder that grows conspiracy theories from theories to a certain level of truth.
Lets look at real numbers from the county where I live:
Total Population in County: 42,404
As of November 20:
Total Cases: 1,213
Total Fatalities 12
Total Active 277
Today Confirmed 70
Total Recovered 27
Total in Hospital 22
New Cases 11/20 41
NOTE: November 20, 241 people were tested for Covid-19 with 41 confirmed; 200 tested did not have Covid-19. Because of testing on November 20, daily infection numbers are higher.
As of November 17
Total Active 208
Total New Cases 37
Total Recovered 20
In Hospital 22
As of November 16
Total Active 191
Total New Cases 45
Total Recovered 34
In Hospital 20
Here is how MOST media is reporting such figures:
New Covid-19 cases in the county skyrocketed Friday to 277 cases from 208 on Tuesday with 70 new cases confirmed. There are 1,213 cases.
If the source is being truthful in reporting, it would look like this:
Current active Covid-19 cases in the county now stands at 277. New cases jumped by 70 today. This reflects 41 confirmed cases from tests that were given to 241 county residents today. There were 27 Covid-19 recoveries today. The number of residents hospitalized remains at 22 and fatalities is unchanged at 12 since the outbreak began earlier this year.
Now, lets break these numbers down: 277 active cases out of 42,404 is 0.6532402603528% of the population. The fatality rate is 12 out of 1,213 cases or a fatality rate of about 1%. About 8% of cases require hospitalization (22 of 277).
So, the reality is the fatality rate is about 1% and hospitalization rate about 7.95%. The number of active infections is about 1 in 150 people.
We are advised to wear masks, keep a 6 foot separation between others and to wash our hands frequently. One virologist stated each of the measures offered about 60% protection. The virologist was quick to note risks was all math. Lets break that down:
If 1 in 150 has Covid-19 and the mask offers 60% protection. The social distancing offers about the same protection. Washing hands or using sanitizer accounts for another 60%. By doing all three, you would need to encounter a few thousand people mathematically to catch Covid-19. That is very difficult to do in this age of curtailed travel and out of the home errands.
Heres the monkey wrench we toss in the mix. The number of people who have been tested for Covid-19 is only a small percentage of the population. Those who may not have symptoms is only guesstimated. This is an unknown. The truth is we will never know real numbers until everyone is tested, sick or not, to either show a sign of antibodies or confirmed illness.
The issue with Covid-19 is that humans have no immunity to the illness. It is not that the illness is a death sentence. In fact, in my county 99% survive but almost 8% need to be hospitalized. That is the issue. We need to regulate the number infected to a point that there are enough beds and critical beds in medical centers to handle the illness. The point for restricting travel and commerce including school attendance is to control the number of infections at one given time to allow those who need care to get the top quality care they need.
Vaccines will be available at some point. You can bet that the first to receive the vaccine will be essential services personnel followed by those at the greatest risk of serious complications. After that the vaccine will be rolled out to the rest of the population. If we can hit the magic number for herd mentality, life as we knew it can resume. We must be patient for this as it is an incredible feat to produce what will be billions of dosages, shipped various places, distributed and then offered the general population. Distribution will have books written about it because nothing of the sort has been done.
In the meantime, be careful, take precautions and understand the shock and awe of Media is a trick for ratings. The worse you can make it sound the better the chances you will not tune away and youll be back for updates. Media makes it money by producing viewers and listeners. In the commercial media realm, that advertising revenue has been down by huge numbers, up to 85% in some markets. In fact, there are small stations that have seen so much revenue go away, they let the whole staff go including salespeople with the owner running commercial free music trying to wait this out. So shock and awe delivers ears and eyes that keep the dollars rolling in. Realize this and know theyre making it seem worse than it truly is.
Stay in touch with family and friends. If you can help those who might be having a tougher time than you, by all means, do so. Collect newspapers with stories about Covid-19 and other data about Covid-19. These will be collectors items in coming years.
And my prediction when asked if our society will ever get back to normal. My answer is yes. As humans, we have very short memories. Well be back to our old selves quickly enough."
