When I was young, one of my favourite comic book series was The Adventures of Tintin, created by Belgian Georges Remi, whose pen name was 'Hergé'. But, during the German occupation of Belgium, Hergé continued to create Tintin stories as a cartoonist for a German-controlled newspaper. When Belgium was liberated in 1944, Hergé was arrested as a collaborator. What is the truth? Did the creator of Tintin help the Germans? Did he betray his country?Dr. Mark Felton FRHistS, FRSA, is a well-known British historian, the author of 22 non-fiction books, including bestsellers 'Zero Night' and 'Castle of the Eagles', both currently being developed into movies in Hollywood.
