///@thatcarnivorenurse: EATING MEAT AND THE ENVIRONMENT
————————————
The conversation around the impact of meat and the environment is contentious and first of all - I have no idea, and I don’t think anyone else does either.
But when I do think about this subject, I cannot help but think we are approaching diet and the environment from the wrong angle.
Meat is essential for the human body. It provides all necessary nutrients that we need to survive, plant foods cannot do this. Thus we must eat meat, and we do not have to eat plants.
On top of this, it appears that meat is the most indicated food for a human body and when consumed in isolation people are improving their health and reversing some chronic disease diseases. This is very important because a healthy population requires less resources from other industries such as the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.
Both these industries are extremely taxing on the environment. I throw away so much single use plastic and just one shift, it is impossible to fathom the amount of waste that the global healthcare system will be throwing away every single day. Pharmaceutical production is also very bad for the environment, and in many cases the use of a drug can be prevented with the correct lifestyle. Being healthy is beneficial for the environment.
When considering what makes us healthy and unhealthy diet plays a fundamental role. It is the presence of ultra processed foods that are driving metabolic disease, obesity, and ill health.
If we are going to look at diet from an environmental perspective as well as one that will cultivate human health, should we prioritise the one food that is essential for health or should we focus on reducing the food that is driving ill health and feeding into pharmaceutical and healthcare industries?
Just some food for thought.
Okey byeeee
