Solar flares

/@space_waterfallc: Solar flares are the explosive release of electromagnetic radiation, they dont cause the aurora, but large flares are often associated with coronal mass ejections. These CMEs carry particles and magnetic field away from the sun, which can and do cause the aurora if they impact Earth.
