///@mdwfponline: It was about 10 years ago when Susie May noticed a hummingbird flittering outside her home at Sardis Lake, so she decided to hang a feeder for the bird. Soon, more birds showed up, so she put up a second feeder. Then another one. And then another one. Today, May said her lakeside home has 15 to 20 hummingbird feeders, which she constantly keeps filled with sugar water. And in September, her place is buzzing with what appears to be thousands of hummingbirds.Hummingbirds are important pollinators that play a vital role in the ecosystem. They are known for their long, slender bills and tube-like tongues that they use to drink nectar from brightly colored flowers. In return for their pollination services, hummingbirds receive nectar meals that provide them with the energy they need to fuel their high metabolism.Susie May’s hummingbird haven was recently featured in Mississippi Outdoors Magazine.
