View MoreFor well over a year, Texas Conservatives have been calling upon Greg Abbott to invoke Article 1, Section 10 of the US Constitution and recognize that the situation on the Texas border is nothing less than an invasion. Now a number of Texas border counties have stepped up and are also calling upon our Governor step up and exercise our constitutional authority as a sovereign state.
Note the language in the US Constitution:
"No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay."
Was taken nearly directly out of the Articles of Confederation:
"No State shall engage in any war without the consent of the United States in Congress assembled, unless such State be actually invaded by enemies..."
Also note that Article 1, Section 7 of the Texas Constitution states that it is the duty of the Governor to repel invasions:
"Sec. 7. GOVERNOR AS COMMANDER‑IN‑CHIEF OF MILITARY FORCES. He shall be Commander-in-Chief of the military forces of the State, except when they are called into actual service of the United States. He shall have power to call forth the militia to execute the laws of the State, to suppress insurrections, and
to repel invasions."
Like our right to bear arms, the right of a sovereign entity like Texas to protect itself was considered by our founders to be a natural right which cannot be bargained away.
Please call Governor Greg Abbott today at (512) 463-2000 and implore him to listen to the pleas of these counties that are being flooded day-by-day by foreign invaders. Ask him to invoke USC Article I, Section 10, and declare the current situation as an invasion of Texas.

View MoreOn June 30, 1688, a jury delivered the crystallizing event leading to the Glorious Revolution of 1688 -- a not guilty verdict against King James II and for seven bishops of the Church of England who had resisted an edict of the king.
King James had decreed that all churches read a statement of religious tolerance to their members. The Archbishop of Canterbury wrote a letter to the king urging him to change his mind because they believed the king was not constitutionally permitted to interfere in religious matters. Six other bishops signed the letter and the seven bishops personally presented it to the king.
For this petition seeking a redress of grievances, the bishops were arrested, refused a grand jury review, and tried for seditious libel. Until I heard this story, I had never truly understood the right to petition for redress of grievances. If you get punished merely for asking for what you want, that right is being violated.
The jury was stacked by the king, and three of the four judges that oversaw the trial told the jury that all the prosecution had to do was prove that the βseditiousβ letter had been written and therefore the jury had to convict. One judge told the jury that the ultimate decision was left βto God and your consciences.β
The trial and the resistance to the king by the seven bishops was the biggest news of the day, and throngs were gathered around the courthouse to hear the verdict. When the not guilty verdict came back, there was widespread rejoicing in the streets, and King James II soon left the throne.
The Founders, of course, knew of this glorious victory for liberty, and this was one of the many historic events through which they viewed and defined the jury and which they fought about as they wrote our constitutions.

View MoreFEUD TRIVIA: Tough Dan βCunningβ Cunningham of the Eureka Detective Agency was reportedly cleared of arson charges that he had burned down a large barn belonging to Anderson βDevil Anseβ Hatfield (as part of his ongoing efforts to capture Hatfields). This incident of the fire, and the cleared charges, was reported in the freshly printed pages of The Logan County Banner newspaper of April 4, 1889.
Later, the Grannon Detective Agency bought a large advertisement in The Logan County Banner edition of June 6, 1889, to recruit local men to aid in the capture of members of the Devil Anse Hatfield clan (including Devil Anse, Cap, Johnse, Jim Vance, Valentine Wall Hatfield and others), along with certain members and supporters of the βHatfield Gang.β
A variety of lawmen, posses, gunslingers, detectives, and opportunists flooded into West Virginia, setting their sights on capturing feudists and retrieving sizable bounties on the heads of certain Hatfield family members living on the Mountain State side of the Tug River.
In other news, the same edition of the paper told of immediate plans of the Norfolk and Western Railroad to build an extension to Logan Courthouse (City of Logan), and of a local railroad bond election failing to win approval from the voters. There was also a report on log booms in Logan County.

Genuine reactions
To keep the reactions to the drill instructor as authentic as possible, R. Lee Ermey and the rest of the cast were not allowed to rehearse together. As Gunnery Sergeant Hartman delivers his hilarious speeches and insults, the reactions caught on camera were the legitimate reactions of the cast.
Gunnery Sgt. Ermy was in the United States Marine Corps for 11 years. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and later was bestowed the honorary rank of Gunnery Sergeant by the Marine Corps, after he served 14 months in Vietnam and later did two tours in Okinawa, Japan. He went on to star in over 70 movies and TV shows but his most famous role will be Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket. He sadly passed away in 2018.
