The Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, was caught riding a motorcycle without a helmet through Complexo da Maré, a conglomeration of favelas in Rio de Janeiro, this Tuesday (20).
Article 244 of the Brazilian Traffic Code defines that riding a motorcycle without a helmet, a violation already committed by former President Jair Bolsonaro, is a very serious infraction: it entails, for the motorcyclist, suspension of the right to drive and a fine of R$ 293 or US$61 .
According to Folha, “the minister participated in a round of conversations with residents of the region and then moved on to an agenda at the Observatório de Favelas”.

The members of the CPI of the MST approved, this Tuesday, the 20th, the summoning of José Rainha, one of the leaders of the National Fight Front (FNL). There is still no date set for his appearance on the board.
Authored by Federal Deputy Alfredo Gaspar (União Brasil-AL), the request initially summoned Zé Rainha as an investigator, but was converted to the condition of a witness.
Rainha is one of the founders of the MST, but due to a “split” in the movement, he later disaffiliated. In early March, the São Paulo Civil Police arrested him on suspicion of extorting landowners in the Pontal do Paranapanema region, in the west of the state.
Weapons supposedly used in agrarian conflicts were also seized from Zé Rainha. About three months later, the Court of Justice of São Paulo released, on a preliminary basis, the leader of the FNL.
At the MST's CPI, Zé Rainha must explain the accusations of extortion and the actions promoted by the movement, such as “Carnaval Vermelho” and “Abril Vermelho”.

Among the requests approved today are the summons of João Pedro Stédile, leader of the MST; and an invitation to the director of the Federal Highway Police, Antônio Fernando Oliveira. More than 40 documents were on the agenda.
The government tried to turn Stédile's summons into an invitation, but was unsuccessful. The base also signed an agreement to remove from the agenda a call request from the Minister of Civil House, Rui Costa. The intention was to shield the government, which faces difficulties in articulating with Congress.
However, the collegiate's rapporteur, Ricardo Salles (PL-SP), said that the government broke part of the agreement by obstructing the day's agenda. Thus, the parliamentarian stated that Costa's summons should be considered at the next session of the CPI, on Wednesday 21st.

Despite being prohibited by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Silvinei defended the corporation's actions. “It is in the Brazilian Northeast that we have nine states, nine superintendencies. We have the largest PRF structure in Brazil, the largest number of PRF units,” he said. He says that the Northeast had as many operations as any other — but in the region 2.5 times more buses were stopped than in the Midwest, the second most targeted region.
He denied that he had anything other than “a professional relationship” with former president Jair Bolsonaro, but he did not deny that he made a post, on the day of the second round, suggesting votes for the then candidate of Paetido Liberal. For him, it is “normal in the PRF for the police to have a candidate in their off time.”
The testimony — which has already lasted about five hours, with one at lunch — has already shown that the opposition should really aim its criticism at the rapporteur, Eliziane Gama (Partido Social Democrático-MA), the only woman in the CPMI leadership. Múcio committed a gaffe when commenting on social inequality in Brazil.
He stated that “the poor” differ by region in the country and that “the dream of the poor in the Northeast is to be poor in the South”.
“I say that we are five countries, not even the poor are the same in this country. The dream of the poor in the Northeast is to be poor in the South, who will live in a different region”, said the minister, who is from Pernambuco.
The Ministry of Defense stated in a note that Múcio's intention was to "emphasize that the difference in per capita income between the Northeast and the South and Southeast regions is unfair and needs to end."
