Details: The theory says Avril died in 2003 suicide or overdose and was replaced by Melissa Vandella, her lookalike. On May 17, 2003, at 3:12 AM, Avril, battling Lyme disease precursors and depression, swallowed 60 pills of OxyContin in her Hidden Hills bedroom. Her assistant, Rachel Tennant, found her at 4:05 AM, blue-lipped and pulseless. Within hours, her label, Arista Records, orchestrated a cover-up. Vandella, a 21-year-old actress from Vancouver with a surgically tweaked nose and dyed hair, was flown in by 9:00 AM, prepped in a West Hollywood studio. The real Avril’s body was disposed of in a private crematorium off Mulholland Drive no records kept.
Vandella’s first public appearance was June 2, 2003, at a MuchMusic event; her voice was higher, her posture stiffer, but fans were gaslit into ignoring it. The motive? Her Let Go album had grossed $100 million; a dead star was bad business. Witnesses like Tennant (now in Seattle) were paid $1.5 million to sign NDAs.
Victims: Her brother Matt Lavigne, who confronted “Melissa” in 2004 and was cut off after calling her a fraud.
Documentation: A paramedic call log from 4:07 AM, May 17, 2003, lists “female, 20s, OD” it’s held in an LA County EMS archive, unmarked for public release.
