CENTRAL COMMITTEE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The WCRCC stands in solidarity with Missouri Freedom Caucus members Rick Brattin, Bill Eigel, Denny Hoskins, and Andrew Koenig. We condemn the actions of Missouri Senate President Pro Tem Caleb Rowden and Senate Majority Leader Cindy O’laughlin on the morning of January 23, 2024. The actions taken to remove four Republican senators from their chairmanships of subcommittees, revoking their parking spots in Jefferson City, and refusal to hear conservative legislation on Initiative Petition reform is disgustingly childish retaliatory behavior that is an embarrassment to the Republican Party.
We are deeply disturbed that Senate Majority Leader O’laughlin has allowed the Missouri Senate to devolve into a place of petty antics & schoolyard grudges, meanwhile ignoring the voices and concerns of Missouri’s great Republican constituents.
Further, removing Air Force veteran Bill Eigel from his chairmanship of the Veterans Affairs
committee is especially egregious. This is a bridge too far. Senator Eigel was sent to Jefferson City by St. Charles voters to carry out the wishes of constituents and Missouri Republican voters, not to carry water for special interests or senator-for-hire lobbyists. Similarly, Senator Brattin is a Marine Veteran. Such shabby treatment of our military veterans is beyond reprehensible.
It is also known that Senate Pro Tem Caleb Rowden has announced his intention to run for Secretary of State in Missouri. Removing his opponent Denny Hoskins from his positions on two separate subcommittees is blatant election interference, and we will not stand for it. We intend to petition the MRSC and demand they refuse Senator Rowden’s filing fee and advise him to file with another party.
Added to the aforesaid transgressions is the $200,000 donation Senator Rowden took from the pro-abortion PAC in 2022, followed by his statement this year that IP Reform isn’t a priority. These careless remarks betray who he is beholden to; not the Republican voters of Missouri but rather the lobbyists who purchased his allegiance. We will not sit quietly by while he sells our state’s constitution to the highest bidder.
These actions against fellow Republicans by Senators Rowden and O’Laughlin are indicative of failed leadership combined with a blatant lack of regard for Republican voters. We strongly encourage Missouri Senate Republicans to remove both from Senate leadership and replace the positions with conservative leaders who will lead the Missouri State Senate to a place where Republican promises are made, and Republican promises are kept.
