It takes living in a desert to see its beauty. Life is there, but you must look for it. Our problem is often in those desert or desolate moments that we would rather be anywhere else. It takes a person who chooses to live in the desert to help us see the beauty of the desert. There is life there and things of beauty that you will not see anywhere else, but there are also times of desolation that come from neglect. If proper care is not given, even the most beautiful of gardens can fail to produce. The Creator and giver of the moment promises to his followers that he will bring streams in the desert and the desolate will bring forth life. The Creator calls us to himself in desolate moments. He shows us beauty from ashes and brings joy from sorrow. He spoke life into existence from nothing and created man from the dust and woman from a bone. He is still the Creator of life and the moment.

Why does that matter today? Well, let's start with what the Bible tells us about who God is. 1John 1:5 “This is the message that we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light, in him there is no darkness at all.” Joshua 1:8-9 “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” 2 Samuel 22:32-34 “For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights.” Isaiah 40:28 “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable." Numbers 23:19 “God is not human, that he should lie not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” Psalm 18:30 “As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless he shields all who take refuge in him.” Hebrews 1:2 “but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.” Matthew 11:27 “All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” If we doubt what the Bible says about God then, we have problem at the very core of our relationship with God. When, as my mentor Henry Blackaby wrote, "when we look at God through our circumstances, we get a distorted view of God." We become disoriented, and disconnected from the God who "is." The God, that the Bible tells us about. David wrote, "Your (God) word have I hidden in my heart, so that I would not sin against you(God). Don't let others or your circumstances tell you who God is. Instead,"seek him and you will find him." Read his word, spend time with his people, and pray. Let his Holy Spirit guide you to and in the "way everlasting."
