I have never voted straight Republican ticket, but I have always voted for the Conservative candidate in any election. That being said I am appalled by the negative and false information about cannabis since the 1930s. In 1970 Congress with the urging and support of President Nixon listed cannabis as a schedule 1 drug. A schedule 1 drug means that it has no medical benefits, and is extremely addictive. Both of these statements are totally false and have no information to support these claims. Cannabis has been medically proven to attack and destroy certain cancer cells and tumors , stop epileptic seizures as effectively as any pharmaceutical medicine, treat chronic pain as effective as any opioids, eliminates the nausea from chemotherapy or any other reason for being nauseous, effectively treats PTSD , reduces inflammation, treats glaucoma as good as any pharmaceutical medicine, helps to greatly reduce withdrawal symptoms from opioids, calms anxiety, increases appetite from those suffering from chemotherapy treatments and AIDS, and a multitude of other ailments. It treats all these symptoms and more without the harmful and dangerous side effects of the Pharmaceuticals used to treat these ailments. These are reason enough for it to be eliminated from schedule 1 drug. Plus it is not been proven to be highly addictive less than 10% of the people who use cannabis are habitual users. In States where cannabis has been legalized opioid deaths have decreased by an average of 33%. So why is it a schedule 1 drug. It's because big pharmaceutical companies would be losing billions of dollars if cannabis was used in place of their addictive medications with a multitude of harmful and dangerous side effects. I live in North Carolina the nation's leading producer of tobacco. Millions die every year from tobacco use and anyone that smoke tobacco will tell you how addictive it is and hard to quit. Tobacco has no medicinal value, causes cancer of the lungs mouth throat hands, heart disease, emphysema, and not only in the victims that use it but also the people that are around the smokers. With that being said it only makes sense that tobacco should be a schedule 1 drug as it has no medicinal values and is highly addictive and it's been proven to kill people. Not one person in over 7,500 years has ever died or overdosed on cannabis. Also hemp can be used to manufacture clothing , paper and cardboard material, as well as alternative fuel sources to replace petroleum. If the farmers in North Carolina were to quit planting tobacco because it was illegal and replaced it with cannabis their profits would increase at least fourfold in the first year. The revenues of cannabis have the highest return of ANY crop grown worldwide with no negative impact on the land used to cultivate it. Please do your own research to see how true this is if you don't believe this. Please write your legislators to support Cannabis reform.
