When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them [a scholar of the law] tested him by asking, "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?"
He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."
My Analysis
1. Your body is not who you are. It is simply the point from where you experience reality on the physical Earth plane. So let's consider our bodies to also be a part of our external reality. With this subtle point out of the way, I will continue.
2. To love God in heart, mind, and soul is to accept and receive the information that God is reflecting to us through our external reality. Our external reality gives us feedback about what is going on internally. The external reflects the inner. We are here on earth to learn how to love ourselves.
To love oneself is to love the inner self.
To love the inner self is to love the outer self.
To love the outer self is to love your neighbor.
3. The two commandments are really one commandment stated two different ways. The first is stated from the perspective of self loving God. The second is from the perspective of self loving others. But remember that in Oneness there is no distinction between self and other. For your neighbor is you and you are your neighbor. Reflect on the Golden Rule for further insight into Oneness.
4. The answer really is always love! Take your neighbor to be a part of yourself. Take your enemy to be a part of yourself. Take your rival to be a part of yourself. Take your friends to be a part of yourself. Take the stranger on the street to be a part of yourself. For they are ALL you. The illusion of separation is one of the challenges we experience on the physical Earth plane.
5. Consider the Cross as an example of love in action. What would it take for Jesus to willingly take on the burdens that came with the cross? I think there would have to be a lot of love for his neighbors in the external reality. The miracle of the cross is that we were there with him on it because he dared to love ALL of parts (children) of God in heart, mind, and soul. He loved God so much that he graciously allowed the external reality to crucify him.
6. You are God because you are a part of God. God is learning to love Itself as we are learning to love ourselves. God is love and love is always growing and expanding. Live in harmony with God. Live in harmony with yourself. Live in harmony with others. This beautiful Universe that God has blessed us with cannot function properly without harmony. So go forth, Children of God, and love others as you would have them love you and love yourselves as you would have others love you. And remember that you are all children of your loving Creator who will also love you as you love yourselves and each other.
7. There is only one thing worth sharing in life and it is Love.
May God bless you, each and every one of you, Beautiful Souls.
