I am truly amazed that people that took an oath to the Constitution don't know what the Constitution says and what it's drafters have to say about the purpose of impeachment. Even some of these, so called, 'experts' don't understand it. People are trying to get the Constitution to mean what they 'wish' it would mean; to 'interpret' it to fit their own agenda. If you want to know what it actually means, and the purpose of impeachment means, read what the drafters of the Constitution said about it. The Constitution doesn't bend to the will of an agenda. It means what it's drafters said it means. Not what the Supreme Court wishes it means. Not what 'scholars' wish it means. Not what Congress wishes it means and certainly not what a few of the ignorant political trolls on social media wish it would mean. So what do the drafters of the Constitution say the purpose of impeachment is? Read their letters. Read the Federalist Papers. Understand that the creation of the Federal government, by the States, was to handle things that are mainly external that the States could not handle on a singular basis. The drafters of the Constitution feared that a president would usurp his power and hand the United States over to the authority, or allegiance, of another country when dealing with these 'mainly external' delegations of powers'. This is why the drafters of the Constitution debated the impeachment clause. Hamilton warned that the impeachment clause would be reduced to a political tool, a devise of political polarization, instead of it's true purpose. Read the impeachment clause in the Constitution word for word and then read the founding documents and letters of those that wrote the Constitution.
