The Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare was the BEST thing to happen to healthcare in America if you were/are an executive in a health system or insurance company. That is the reason the American Hospital Association was a big supporter of the bill at the time and why Insurance companies rallied for the individual mandate. Since it’s passage, these two entities (Health Systems & Insurance Companies) have cranked out RECORD profits as YOU were dealt HIGHER deductibles and premiums year after year while getting LESS coverage. Today, many of the SAME people who supported the ACA are pushing for a Single -Payer government run “Medicare for All” insurance system as the solution for the situation we find ourselves in. They will rightfully talk about the issues most Americans are facing (Rising premium cost, high deductibles, less coverage, denials, etc…) while telling you that a government run system will fix all of these issues but YOU have to pay MORE in taxes as a trade-off. Canada is often cited as a good example of this government run system while they completely ignore how OVERWHELMED it has become in modern times and the delays taking place for much needed care leading many to come here for their medical needs. Not to mention how roughly HALF of the population living in America effectively do not pay federal income tax when all is said and done. That means the MIDDLE class will be carrying the bulk of the tax hike for a system that is GUARANTEED to be riddled with inefficiencies, red tape, waste, fraud, and abuse. How do I know that? Just look at the insurance programs already run by government in this country called medicare/medicaid and the evolution of them over the last two decades. If you think things are DYSFUNCTIONAL now, it will pale in comparison to what we will have to deal with if we go down the path of single-payer system in this country. The people pushing for a single-payer system do NOT care about hard WORKING middle class Americans in this country or seniors despite what they say. They will NOT feel bad when RATIONING of care takes place (IT WILL) for SENIORS who have paid into the system for DECADES. They will SACRIFICE the medical care of seniors much like they did when they took away your decent health plans and replaced them with high deductibles for YOU while touting about their medicaid expansion. There is NOTHING righteous about helping those who may not be able to afford something at the expense of those who have PAID and currently PAY into a system. We all know the current system is BROKEN and unsustainable but the fix is NOT a single- payer system no matter how much they tell you it is. Until we SERIOUSLY address the GREED at the corporate level and FRAUD being committed by portions/sectors of society, HONEST hard working Americans that play by the rules will continue to get the short end of the stick.
