The public spoke... and the vile senators in the NYS Senate didn't listen!
The Accelerate Solar for Affordable Power (ASAP) Act just passed the NY State Senate and would more than triple NY’s distributed solar target from 6 GW → 20 GW by 2035.
They want you to think that "distributed" solar just means rooftops.
It doesn't. It includes community solar, which swallows hundreds of acres of prime farmland and habitat at a time as well.
Since these politicians know that ORES has been so successful at ramming projects through the pipeline, this is yet another renewable energy bill that's aimed at "accelerating timelines."
Instead of upgrading grid infrastructure, utilities can allow solar to connect and then curtail (turn down) output when needed.
That raises questions like:
- Are we building capacity we can’t fully use right now? Did these politicians know this all along?
- Who absorbs the inefficiency cost?
Yet again, guess what this bill doesn't consider? Siting quality (prime farmland, habitat, etc.), ecological impacts, local control concerns, and wildlife fragmentation or fencing issues.
It's now headed to Governor Kathy Hochul's desk, where she'll sign it into law like the good little green energy puppet that she is for countries like China, Denmark, Spain, and Canada.
By signing this into law, it opens up hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts for companies, like Brookfield in Canada, to cash in on destroying the environment of New York State.
The only thing that will stop these people is a lawsuit.
