AWFULL! New 9% Chicago Bears Tax coming to Illinois! Tucked away and hidden in the JB Pritzker Democrat Bears Mega Project bill that passed the Illinois House on Wednesday is a brand new 'additional' 9% tax. This tax would be on top of property tax increases for residents and small businesses, and giveaways for the Bears and mega projects in Illinois. The bill creates a new 'taxing district" Illinois already has a the most taxing districts in the US. [Q: Should Illinoisans be subject to new 9% tax to keep the Bears in Illinois? ] On Wednesday, most Democrats and 10 Republicans in the Illinois House voted for the mega projects bill that includes a brand new tax for people in Illinois This bill creates new taxing district “project zones” (called STAR bond districts). Within the district, which could be as large as an entire county, you may be forced to pay an additional 9% tax on movies, high school football games, carnivals, concerts, arcades, waterparks, pickleball, county fairs, etc. the new fee is on top of what you already pay at entertainment and attraction-type businesses. Considering it a new “visitor fee/tax” Democrats argue the tax would subsidize the “mega project“ whether it’s the Bears , or any other large multi-million dollar development.
