Terrence K Williams Dear Pope Leo XIV, spare us the lectures on walls, immigration, war, and the virtues of Islam. The Vatican walls exist for a reason. After Muslim Arab raiders sacked St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Leo IV ordered the walls to be built to protect the heart of the Church. They were completed around 852 AD. Those walls were not built as a symbol. They were built because threats were real, security mattered, and protecting your people was necessary. So before lecturing the rest of the world, maybe remember why the Vatican itself is behind walls.
