Someone reading this today feels stuck…
not just discouraged…
not just disappointed…
…but like you can’t move forward.
And after everything we just celebrated…
the victory… the hope… the empty tomb…
you might be wondering…
👉 Why do I still feel this way?
This is for you.
✨ DON’T GET STUCK IN THE PIT ✨
Disappointment vs. Discouragement
Disappointment happens to all of us…
You wait… and they don’t show.
You hope… and it doesn’t happen.
You pray… and nothing seems to change.
💔 Disappointment.
Here’s the truth:
👉 Disappointment happens to everyone…
and it’s usually outside of our control.
👉 But discouragement… comes from within.
👉 And this is where people get stuck…
Not in the fall…
but in what comes after it.
📖 Psalm 40:1-2 (KJV)
“I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”
The pit… is disappointment.
We all fall into it.
But the miry clay…
🟫 That’s discouragement.
🟫 That’s when your feet stop moving.
🟫 That’s when you start believing nothing will change.
👉 You may fall into a pit…
but you don’t have to stay stuck in it.
📖 “…(He) set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”
—Psalm 40:2
📖 “…(and) that Rock was Christ.” — I Corinthians 10:4
When life pulls you down…
✝️ Jesus lifts you up.
Not just out…
but onto something solid.
✔️ Stability
✔️ Direction
✔️ Hope
And then…
🎵 a new song.
📖 “And he hath put a new song in my mouth…”
—Psalm 40:3
Not because life got easy…
but because God was faithful.
Jehoshaphat faced overwhelming odds in the Book of II Chronicles…
But instead of discouragement…
🙏 He sought the Lord
🙏 He prayed
🙌 He worshipped
📖 II Chronicles 20:12
“O our God…we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.”
👉 Jehoshaphat chose not to let disappointment turn into discouragement…
👉 and that made all the difference.
And God said:
📖 “The battle is not yours, but God’s.”
— II Chronicles 20:15
📖 “Stand still… and see the salvation of the LORD.”
— II Chronicles 20:17
👉 That’s the turning point:
Not when the situation changes…
but when your perspective does.
So today…
If you’re in a pit of disappointment…
⚠️ Don’t let your feet get stuck
in the miry clay of discouragement.
📖 Psalm 40:17
“But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me…”
He sees you.
He knows.
He is already working.
✨ He will lift you
✨ Set your feet on the Rock
✨ And give you a new song
📖 I Peter 5:7 (KJV)
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
So if you experience the pit of disappointment today…
👉 fight against choosing the miry clay of discouragement…
because that’s what keeps you stuck.
Remember Jehoshaphat’s template for success which began with this prayer:
📖 II Chronicles 20:12
“O our God…we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.”
Helen Lemmel said it best in her beloved hymn written over one hundred years ago:
“O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.”
👉 Someone you know is in that pit right now…
👉 If this spoke to you…
share it with someone who feels like they’re sinking right now.
