According to alleged reports from American and Iranian media, the downed U.S. pilot inside Iran initially took cover on a high ridge within a remote, mountainous, and heavily wooded region. He quickly moved away from his parachute landing site on foot before activating his emergency locator beacon. The rugged, uninhabited terrain provided him with critical time, allowing him to evade Iranian military units and local regime supporters who were searching for him.The rescue mission reached its climax in the early morning hours when two U.S. C-130 transport aircraft, carrying American special operations forces, landed on a makeshift airstrip deep inside Iranian territory—approximately 250 kilometers from the nearest friendly border with Kuwait.At the same time, the CIA conducted a coordinated deception and information operation, spreading false reports among Iranian forces and media that the pilot had already been successfully extracted. This was intended to sow confusion while the operation was still in progress. Basij militia units that advanced toward the rescue site and threatened the American team were neutralized by air strikes, with Iranian sources reporting at least nine fatalities. Nearby broadcast facilities and transmission towers in the city of Dehdasht were also targeted and destroyed from the air.Once the pilot was located by ground teams and extraction preparations were underway, the two C-130s became stuck in soft sand and were unable to take off. Additional U.S. transport aircraft were brought in to evacuate the American personnel. The immobilized planes were subsequently destroyed by U.S. air strikes to prevent them from being captured by Iranian forces (video footage has surfaced of the strikes).
