From high Earth orbit to the far side of the Moon, the Artemis II crew is in for a true cosmic tour. 🚀Artemis II will take astronauts through some of the most dynamic and awe‑inspiring environments in human spaceflight. The journey begins in high Earth orbit, where Orion circles above our planet. From that vantage point, the crew will see Earth glowing beneath them as Orion completes its system checks. From there, the view transforms. As Orion fires toward the Moon, the crew enters deep space — a region where Earth slowly shrinks into a blue marble suspended in blackness. The familiar pull of home fades, and the Moon’s gravity takes over. It’s a perspective no astronaut has experienced in more than 50 years. On the far side of the Moon, the crew will witness something even rarer: Earth completely out of view. In that moment, they’ll be farther from our planet than any humans in decades, surrounded by the rugged, unlit terrain of the lunar far side, including portions that have never been seen by human eyes.As Orion arcs back toward home, the crew exits the lunar sphere of influence. Earth grows brighter with every mile, guiding the spacecraft back toward reentry. Each phase of this journey offers a new window into space, and each one helps prepare for the day astronauts return to the lunar surface.
