WHY DID GOD ALLOW SIN INTO THE WORLD? One Bible word probably sums up the best answer: FREEWILL. This word is found seventeen times in the Bible, and other similar terms, such as "whosoever will" and "whosoever shall" are found many times as well. God is a good God who allows man the freedom to choose. He didn't exactly "let sin into the world." He allowed man the freedom to choose, and man chose to sin. So, it was man, not God, who directly allowed sin into the world. Think of the alternative. Had God not allowed man to sin, then man would be little more than a robot with no free will. If that were the case, then it could be argued that God is a control freak dictator, scared that man will not freely love him, so he must oversee a super-controlled environment where man cannot be tempted and cannot be trusted to excel to his highest potential. This would limit man to being a bondslave, much like an animal in a cage, and it would fall very short of the holy character that we know God possesses. In light of God's holiness, the only sensible plan is to allow man to choose and to learn from the consequences of his choices. Sure, God allowed man to sin, but he also provided the cure for sin, the Lord Jesus Christ, thus giving all men the freedom to choose. Is this not exactly what every parent does with their children? Little by little, as the years roll by, we allow our children to make mistakes and to learn from them, and by the time they are eighteen to twenty-five years of age, we allow them to make most all of their own decisions, knowing full well that some will not be good ones. We are not bad parents for allowing this, and God is not a bad God for giving man a free will. Because of his allowing sin into the world and giving man a free will, God will spend eternity being praised by people who will be glad that they chose him over Satan (Eph. 2:7). Satan will have no one singing his praises. Why did God allow sin into the world? Because he's a holy, all-wise God who knows what he's doing.
