The Depravity Of Mocking God
Matthew 27:29-31
“And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.”
The word “mocked” means to sport with, to play or trifle with, to jeer at. To these soldiers, what they were doing to Jesus seemed like a child’s game. What Jesus endured that day on the cross was no laughing matter. And to make fun at, laugh at, scorn and jeer at God, Christ, the Bible, and the things of God is just a show of the deep depravity of a person’s heart. Following Christ is no joking matter. And one day, maybe sooner than anyone thinks, all the world will see how serious God can be.
Galatians 6:7
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
Psalms 9:17
“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.”
