People are masters at excuses.
“Childhood.”
“Pressure.”
“Friends.”
“Culture.”
“The devil made me do it.”
“Everyone else is doing"
“Just once won’t matter"
But God doesn’t accept excuses—He exposes them.
Romans 1:20 (KJV) says “…so that they are without excuse:”
That settles it. Not “less excuse.” Not “understandable excuse.”
Without excuse.
The problem isn’t that people don’t know—it’s that they refuse to acknowledge what they already know.
Romans 1 shows the downward path:
They knew God… but glorified Him not.
They knew truth… but changed it into a lie.
They knew right… but chose sin anyway.
That’s where excuses come from—not ignorance, but rejection.
We live in a generation that justifies everything:
Sin is rebranded.
Conviction is called judgment.
Accountability is labeled “toxic.”
But none of that changes reality.
You can break every “excuse link” in your life…and still be chained to sin.
Why?
Because excuses don’t deal with guilt—they hide it.
And hidden guilt is still guilt.
God doesn’t ask you to explain your sin—He calls you to own it.
Proverbs 28:13 (KJV) says: “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”
There’s the difference:
Excuses cover sin.
Confession confronts it.
Forsaking removes it.
If you keep excusing it, you’ll stay chained to it.
But if you confess it—and turn from it—God offers mercy through Jesus Christ.
No excuses will stand before God.
But mercy is still available today.
The question is simple:
Are you making excuses…or are you getting right?
