Mark J Shultz, a friend of Tom Mueller (Cloud Appreciation Society Member 54,528), watched as a broad layer of Stratocumulus stretched inland from the Pacific Ocean near Carpinteria, California, US. The dramatic boundary between overcast and clear sky suggests differing air masses coming into contact with each other. The one on the left appears to have picked up moisture over the open ocean. ‘It looks like a carpet was being rolled out above our heads,’ Tom observed.
