Are You Running From God?Jonah 1:1-3a“Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD…”Jonah 3:1-2“And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.”After getting his orders from the LORD to preach in Nineveh, Jonah ran from the presence of the LORD and set sail unto Tarshish. In the middle of a violent storm he was thrown over into the sea and was swallowed up by a great fish (Jesus said it was a whale - Matthew 12:40).While in the fish’s belly he prayed, the fish vomited up Jonah and a second chance from God came to go to Nineveh. Jonah went through a lot to hear that second chance commission to preach in Nineveh. Why did he not just obey God at the first?Part of the reason was Jonah had a bad case of being prejudice. He hated the people of Nineveh. Reading the Bible has taught me many truths about God.One truth is this, in the end God always wins. Another is this, obedience to God shows a heart that is right and in tune with God. Any disobedience is rebellion and for the Christian, that will invoke the chastening hand of God.Are you running from God?What is it that He wants from you that you are running away from?
