LITTLE SERMONS AND LITTLE MINDS
Since Laodicea's attitude is that she has need of nothing (Rev. 3:17), it's only natural that she would whine and bellyache about long sermons and long articles. That's why the average "Christian" has never read the Bible through, and isn't going to read it through. Laodiceans have an abbreviated religion where God is allowed less than 5% of their time and the world, the flesh and the devil get over 95%. You can always spot them in a preaching service, because after thirty minutes they start fidgeting, looking at their watches, running to the restroom, sleeping, whispering, watching other people, passing notes, and just about anything else other than paying attention to the message. Because of this, a great many preachers are starting to preach shorter sermons. The people, we are told, cannot stay focused for an hour or more, so we should preach shorter sermons. No, thanks. The people have busy lives, so we should offer an "early service" so they can get God out of the way and have the rest of the day to themselves. No, thanks. People don't have time to read ten and fifteen minute posts, so preachers should be brief on social media. No, thanks.
If folks don't want to endure my preaching, then they can go someplace else and remain spiritually ignorant. God has equipped me and called me to feed the sheep, and that takes time. The men who preach little sermons usually do so because they have little minds just like their members. They're all a bunch of children with tiny attention spans, at least for spiritual things. They can easily sit through two and three hour ball games, an hour meal at the restaurant, or a couple two hour movies back to back, but even an hour of God's word is too much. What a bunch of babies!
"But if they stop listening after thirty minutes, why keep preaching?" You idiot, anyone who "stops listening" after thirty minutes was never really listening in the first place! So either you're not saying anything worth hearing or they're just not interested in the Book. Rather than face either of these realities, the cowardly preacher just shortens the sermon so he can keep on playing make-believe church and getting a paycheck.
No Bible-believing preacher engages in such foolishness. First and foremost, I preach and teach for God, not man, so no man (or woman) should be allowed to influence my message in any way. My job is to FEED SHEEP (John 21:15-17). If you're hungry, you'll eat. If you've already filled-up on worldly junk food, then you'll turn your nose up at God's word and cry like a spoiled toddler. Desiring the sincere milk of the word is a CHOICE (I Pet. 2:2), and nowhere in God's word do we find time restraints being placed on the feeding process. Laodiceans will wreck you spiritually, if you let them. Don't let them. I'll take as much time as I need for my preaching and writing. If you don't like it, go someplace else and suffer the consequences.
