1 Kings 22:23 “Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.”WHEN PEOPLE REFUSE TRUTH King Ahab did not lack voices.He had hundreds of prophets speaking to him. The problem was not a shortage of religion, preaching, or opinions. The problem was that none of them were speaking the truth of God.When the true prophet Micaiah arrived, he exposed what was really happening:God had allowed a lying spirit to deceive the prophets because Ahab had already rejected the truth. This is a sobering principle found throughout Scripture:When people continually reject God’s truth, there comes a point where God allows them to believe lies instead. God does not deceive the innocent.But He will judge the rebellious by allowing deception to take hold of those who refuse to hear Him.The New Testament teaches the same warning.2 Thessalonians 2:10–11 “…because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.”Notice the order: 1️⃣ People reject truth 2️⃣ Their hearts become hardened 3️⃣ God allows delusion and deception The danger is not that truth is unavailable. The danger is when people no longer want the truth.Today many people search for voices that tell them what they want to hear.They follow teachers that make them comfortable, affirm their desires, or adjust God’s Word to fit the culture.But when a person continually refuses the truth of Scripture, the greatest judgment God may allow is this:They begin believing the lies they once resisted.This is why believers must constantly return to the Word of God.Truth is not determined by the number of voices speaking, the popularity of a message, or the confidence of a preacher.Truth is determined by Scripture alone.So the question is not: “Who is speaking?”The question is: “Is it what God has already said?” When a heart loves truth, it will run toward God’s Word. When a heart rejects truth, it will eventually find a voice that justifies the lie.Choose carefully which voice you listen to.
