Three Democratic Georgia State Representatives have been charged with fraudulently obtaining pandemic unemployment assistance funds, according to federal prosecutors: • Former Rep. Karen Bennett (D-Stone Mountain) pleaded guilty in January 2026 to making false statements, obtaining about $13,940 while still employed. She resigned from office days before charges were filed. • Rep. Sharon Henderson (D-Covington) was indicted in December 2025 on theft of government funds and false statements, allegedly collecting $17,811 by falsely claiming employment. Gov. Brian Kemp suspended her in January 2026 pending case resolution. • Rep. Dexter Sharper (D-Valdosta) was charged in January 2026 with false statements for applying for benefits from April 2020 to May 2021 while serving in office.
