This refers to Section 535 of the FY2026 NDAA (signed by President Trump Dec 18, 2025).Section 535 changes how Selective Service System registration works, but it does NOT create a military draft.Before • Men must register themselves within 30 days of turning 18. • Failing to register can lead to penalties (loss of federal aid, certain jobs, etc.).After the change • The government automatically registers men aged 18–26. • Individuals no longer have to submit the form themselves. • Because registration becomes automatic, penalties for failing to register would be removed.About 10–15% of eligible men never register, often by mistake. Automatic registration ensures the database is complete without punishing people.
