John 11:25–26 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?Jesus spoke these words to Martha after her brother Lazarus had died. She believed in a future resurrection someday, but Jesus brought the issue into the present moment. He did not ask Martha about religion, tradition, or family heritage. He asked a direct question: “Believest thou this?”CONDITIONALSalvation is conditional upon belief: “Believest thou this?”Belief is not merely thinking that God exists or acknowledging that He sits in heaven.Even the devils believe that much. James 2:19 says: “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”The devils believe in God, yet their final destination is hell.So the question must be asked: What makes your belief different from the devils’ belief? Or is there no difference in your understanding? Biblical belief is not mere acknowledgment.Biblical belief is faith that convicts the heart of sin and brings a person to repentance and salvation. True belief produces change.Belief will create a desire not just to attend church, but to be part of the church. Belief will create a desire to read the Word of God. Belief will create a desire to serve God in your church and community. Belief will create a desire to change the direction of your life, so that your judgment day will be filled with rewards and not embarrassment for wasted faith.Belief always has an effect. Therefore, when there is no effect, there was no real belief.Jesus asked Martha a direct question, and that same question now stands before every person:“Believest thou this?”
