Proverbs 19:5 “A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.”THE PROGRESSION OF DECEPTIONA lie rarely stands alone. It almost always produces something deeper and more dangerous. First comes the lie. A person tells something that is not true in order to gain advantage, hide wrongdoing, or influence someone else. But lies do not remain small. Once spoken, they begin to multiply.Lies produce deceit. A person must now maintain the falsehood by covering it with more falsehoods. Deceit produces manipulation. Instead of dealing honestly with others, the person begins using words, emotions, and situations to control people and maintain the deception. But the end of this path is far worse than many imagine. Manipulation eventually traps the person who started the lie. What began as an attempt to control others becomes a life controlled by deception itself. The liar becomes entangled in the very web they created. The Bible tells us that lies originate from the devil, who is called “the father of it.” When people choose deception, they unknowingly step into the same pattern of deceit that Satan has used since the beginning.Yet God calls His people to something very different.Ephesians 4:25 “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour.”Truth brings freedom, clarity, and peace. Lies bring confusion, manipulation, and eventually bondage. The safest path for every believer is simple: walk in the truth and refuse the path of deception.
