It is a ‘shared base’ that the UK uses too. And we could even build another there, and a port. We might even build a nuclear submarine base there, so we have an alternative to Faslane! But perhaps we need to be able to protect our allies and friends in that part of the world. And our shipping? Wouldn’t it be good to have a base, out of reach of airan’s missiles, from which we could launch attacks in order to protect Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar? Qatar, by the way, provides about 10% of the UKs Natural Gas requirements (mostly because the UK Government won’t drill more from our own shores!). There is very real STRATEGIC use in having the British Indian Ocean Territories. Indeed, that is why there is a US base on Diego Garcia. Certainly there is no value whatsoever in giving these 70-odd islands and hundred atolls away. And what idiot thought we needed to give away tens of billions to Mauritius?! Sure, it would be nice if Mauritius did not fall into the hands of China. But that is ANOTHER reason to keep the British Indian Ocean territories. And a further reason to keep these islands is to make it very clear to the rest of the world that we are NOT giving away the Falklands (which Argentina claims) South Georgia, Ascension Island, Gibraltar (which Spain wants), the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, the Orkneys or Outer Hebrides (which Norway wants), Northern Ireland (which Eire wants) or indeed Scotland! ‘Humanitarian’ lawyers like Starmer will be sacked as soon as we get to vote again. He has no real understanding or appreciation of UK National Interests. He is a sad apologist for the Colonial era. No pride in UK achievements. No backbone at all! Let us be clear where we draw the line! We are Unionist. OUR Policies need to Nation-BUILD not Nation destroy. We need to incorporate our territories into the United Kingdom. That is what Spain has done with its North African Colonies. That is what Holland has done with its six Caribbean islands categorized as part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. That is what France has done with its remaining Colonies. France maintains 12 main overseas territories (known as Outre-Mer), which are not considered colonies today but are integral parts of the French Republic. RUssia incorporated its Far East colonies into Russia centuries ago. Portugal did too: current colonies, the Azores and Madeira, are integral, autonomous regions of Portugal. That is what the USA has done with its colonies too! Yes, even the USA has colonies: Puerto Rico, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa. That would be properly Progressive. That would end the debate.
