Hakeem Jeffries calling Republicans “cult-like” for standing and applauding during President Trump’s State of the Union is completely absurd. It was not that long ago that Democrats were leaping to their feet cheering Joe Biden during his SOTU, even when he stumbled through lines like “Putin may circle Kiev with tanks, but he’ll never gain the hearts and souls of the Iranian people.” Applause at a State of the Union is not new, shocking, or authoritarian. It is politics. The media dissects every word of a president’s address, as they should, but suddenly applause itself is treated as a constitutional crisis when it is for Trump.Let’s be honest about what is really happening. When Trump says he can implement tariffs without Congress and Republicans applaud, Democrats do not see a separation of powers problem. They see a policy they hate. They oppose tariffs because they prefer the globalist economic model that has hollowed out American industry and left our workers footing the bill. This is not about process. It is about power. Democrats are upset they are not in control, and they cannot stand watching policies that prioritize American workers over the global system they have long defended.
