Stark County, Ohio
Yesterday, Canton City Council announced an increase in utility bills for all customers starting next month, citing 'necessary infrastructure upgrades and increased operational costs.'
They failed to mention the 5,600-square-foot, 1.5 MW redundant data center in Canton that is driving up energy costs.
They also failed to mention the major data center project is breaking ground in nearby Perry Township. Metallus (formerly TimkenSteel) Faircrest plant.
This increase is just the first of many for Ohioans. With officials like Jon Husted, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Rob McColley who will support Ohio legislation that further protects data centers from absorbing the energy costs and infrastructure upgrades, abandoning regulations, and granting 15-30 year tax abatement on property taxes - the cost will go to consumers.
