"SUPPORT THE WEAK"
"I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35)
"Support the weak", now that should be that labor of love working overtime in the life of every Christian. When we support the weak, I believe we are using that wonderful gift of "helps" found in 1 Corinthians 12:28.
Our service to others is not to impress the powerful, pat the back of the influential, or to help those who might be able to aid us in the future. No, the whole idea of true service for Christ is reaching out to the down and out with no thought of getting something in return.
Yes, supporting the weak means assisting those, even if they are powerless to repay the favor. If that person has shown themselves (be it in the past or the present) to be an enemy, we are still commanded to share the goodness of God, which has been extended to us, by showering it upon them.
The Lord Jesus told us in Luke 6:35, "But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Yet how many live by this Truth? Who is actually willing to give of their minutes, their might, and their money to those in need, more than they are interested in receiving the applause, the accolades, and the attention from those who walk around with their noses in the air acting like Mr. and Mrs. Snootington? Very few today live out the belief that giving to others, for the Glory of God, promises infinitely more satisfaction than any personal gain.
Friends, I've been around a long time, and I have seen that the selfish life is a life of loneliness and loss. What about you and me? Are we willing to walk by faith in Jesus’ Words and live the others-focused life? If so, then we that are strong can rest assured that our Saviour's work through in us, by supporting the weak, will receive added blessings on Earth and amazing rewards in Eternity!
