Total Satisfaction In Life
John 7:37-39
“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)”
Thirsting is a natural occurrence. When one is thirsty they will drink to satisfy their thirst. But in this text Jesus wasn’t speaking of physical thirst but was using the analogy of physical thirst and drinking to emphasize the spiritual thirst of mankind. Mankind has a spiritual thirst, and the only lasting satisfaction for that thirst comes from Jesus Christ. In John 4:14 Jesus said, “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” And in John 6:35 He said, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
“All my life-long I had panted for a drink from some cool spring, That I hoped would quench the burning of the thirst I felt within. Hallelujah! I have found Him- whom my soul so long has craved!
Jesus satisfies my longings; through His blood I now am saved.”
