WE COULDN’T JUST GO ON AIR AND LIE: That’s what Joy Reid said about the newsroom standards she worked under, adding, “I never lied on TV.”
“I never lied on TV. We weren’t allowed to just get up there and lie. We had to have evidence for what we were saying. We couldn’t just make stuff up. We couldn’t just go on the air and say things that weren’t true. There was a process.
There were fact-checkers. There were producers who would say, ‘You can’t say that unless you have sourcing.’ It was a different environment than what you see on some other networks where they just kind of let people go out there and say whatever they want, regardless of whether it’s true or not.”
