"FOR I RECKON"
"For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." (Romans 8:18)
There are a great many things we do not know about concerning the end of this life. But on the other hand, God has given us all the assurance we need in His Word as we look joyfully and expectantly forward to that day.
Paul knew enough about what was coming to say, "For I reckon." To reckon would be described as an accounting term meaning he had taken careful inventory, done the calculations, and had come to a careful and reliable conclusion. And what Paul was comparing was the sufferings of this time, which he was personally acquainted with, and the glory to come for every believer in Jesus Christ.
When Paul added up all the trials, the heartaches, the losses, and the sorrows he had experienced in this life and carefully weighed them in relation to the glory afterwards, he came to this stunning realization; the two should not even be compared, because his hope of Eternal Life was far greater than the Hardships of his Earthly life.
Yes, in Heaven, we too will experience unending joy so deep and pleasures so complete. Our Lord does not ask us to fathom such a claim; He simply requires that by faith we trust Him and believe His Word.
Friends, like Paul, are we living by faith every day in the enormity of the coming glory that's only found in the Person of Jesus Christ? As for me, I reckon it to be true!
