"LEGAL" & "EVANGELICAL" REPENTANCE You can always count on man to muddy the waters and complicate the simple. There was nothing complicated about the Bible doctrine of repentance until men started weighing-in with their gnat-straining legalism and inventing terms like "legal repentance" and "evangelical repentance," neither of which are Bible terms. The Book just says, "repent . . . repentance . . . repented . . . repentest . . . repenteth . . . repenting" and "repentings" 112 times and leaves it at that. The context of these 112 usages makes the doctrinal definition so crystal clear that you would have to be either a college professor or a campground Baptist to miss it. In both cases, the old split-foot confounder himself goes into high gear muddying the waters by leading the fallen nature of man to ask stupid and divisive questions that only lead to more questions . . . "But is this verse speaking of legal repentance or evangelical repentance?" "But does one repent before he believes or afterwards?" "Does the sinner repent of all SINS or just the sin of unbelief?" "Is repentance merely a change of mind, or is it something more?" "Doesn't outward repentance lead to a works-based salvation?" "Since we can't know anyone's heart, isn't it really impossible for us to know who has repented and who hasn't?" All such questions are rooted in a proud and carnal desire to bicker about the supposed TECHNICALITIES of the word of God rather than a SPIRITUAL desire to understand a rock solid, crystal clear Bible doctrine by letting the Bible speak for itself. That is, some folks can't see God's spiritual forest for their own technical trees. Either you have repented or you have NOT repented, and you'll get more real answers about it by talking to God on THAT basis than by playing Satanic semantics with agenda-driven brethren.
