“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
— 1 John 2:16 (KJV)
This verse doesn’t need updating, softening, or re-explaining. It diagnoses the human heart exactly as it is.
The lust of the eyes teaches us to measure life by what we see—money, possessions, glamour, and what others have. It never says, “Enough.” It always wants more.
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth…” (Matthew 6:19)
The lust of the flesh tells us to follow feelings instead of faith, cravings instead of Christ. It promises pleasure but delivers bondage.
“For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit…” (Galatians 5:17)
The pride of life convinces man he is sufficient without God—self-made, self-directed, self-exalting. God says plainly where that road ends.
“Pride goeth before destruction…” (Proverbs 16:18)
These three have ruined marriages, churches, nations, and souls. Yet the world celebrates them, markets them, and calls them “normal.”
God calls them sin.
The good news? Victory is not found in willpower, but in submission.
“And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” (1 John 2:17)
Choose what lasts.
Crucify the flesh.
Reject the lie.
Walk humbly with God.
