That’s Not Fair!
Ecclesiastes 7:15
“All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness.”
As a young person I can remember saying the words “That’s not fair” and I can remember part of my mother’s answer, “ life is not fair.” In his search for the meaning of life, Solomon found plenty of proof about the unfairness of life. In our text verse he writes about some of his findings. Psalm 73 records the words of one of David’s chief musicians named Asaph. As he viewed the unfairness and injustices of life he saw the prosperity of the wicked, how they had firm strength and were not plagued as other men. It all just didn’t seem fair. They were ungodly, yet prospered in the world and had riches. But when Asaph entered into the sanctuary or presence of God he came to an understanding about some of the unfairness and injustices of life. Instead of sulking and pouting about it all, he allowed it to draw him closer to God and to grow in his trust of God, that he might better be able to declare the works of God. It is very true that life is not fair, but how will you allow it to affect you? Do you allow the unfairness and injustices of life that has happened to you to justify your ungodly actions? Or, do you allow it to motivate you to draw closer to God?
