Helping Others & Being HelpedActs 18:24-26“And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.”In this passage about Apollos and Aquila and Priscilla I see two things that I wish I saw more of in the church. First, I see a married couple who have dedicated their life to the things of God, who genuinely want to help others. Aquila and his wife Priscilla have the spiritual gift of helps and they seek to help this man named Apollos. Many in the church today wouldn’t waste their time with an Apollos. Why? Because he’s off on his doctrine and doesn’t believe like us. But they reached out to him, and sought to expound unto him the way of God more perfectly. Second, I see humility in Apollos, in the fact he allows for Aquila and Priscilla to teach him. He recognizes he doesn’t know it all and is willing to be helped where he lacks Bible instruction. He has what you call a teachable spirit. Our lesson is this, be willing to help any Christian who is wiling and who shows desire to be helped. And, do not ever think you know everything to the point you do not need to be corrected or learn yourself.
